In our last blog post, we talked about easy tips that you can use if you’re going to moving within a year’s time. While a year seems like a very long time to carry out a move, time flies faster than you realize. Organization is crucial to a smooth, successful move.
This post is the second in a two-part series. It contains five tips on how to help you move your house in a year with as little hassle and stress as possible.
Tip 1: Research Movers
When it comes to researching movers, you might be tempted to go with the lowest quote. However, you get what you pay for – the company might not show up with the right sized vehicle or enough materials.
Ask about what the quote includes. The best quotes include the greatest amount of services for the least amount of money.
Tip 2: Consider the Season of Your Move
What’s the time of the year in which you’re moving? Summer is the busiest time of the year to move. Many people with children don’t want to interrupt the school year.
The other three seasons are less busy, and as a result, less expensive. It’s also easier to book a moving van during those times of the year.
Tip 3: Use up Your Perishables before You Move
As you get closer to your moving date, start using up your perishables before you move. You don’t want moving day to roll around, only to discover you’ve got food in your fridge.
Now is also a good time to use up household supplies that are almost empty. They’re not worth taking with you to your new home, but you can still get one more use out of them.
Tip 4: Time the Utilities Shutdown Properly
You don’t want to pay for utilities longer than you have to. On the other hand, you want to make sure you’ve got electricity and water until you move.
Contact your utilities providers about shutting off your power. Make sure that it’s on when you need it, and you’re not paying for utilities you’re not using.
Tip 5: Be Ready on Moving Day
Whatever you have to do on the big day, make sure it’s done by then. You don’t want the movers to show up as you run around, trying to get things done at the last minute.
Go over your checklist in advance to ensure that your tasks are done. The move will go faster, and your bill will be lower as a result.
