Basic Furniture Assembly and Disassembly

Orbit’s full-service scope includes basic furniture disassembly and reassembly at no additional cost for simple, previously assembled household items.

This includes dismantling used beds, kitchen and dining tables, and desks with 8 components or fewer (including screws and hardware), allowing the process to remain efficient and stress-free.

What’s included in the full-service scope price:

  • Simple used bed frames with a headboard, footboard, and side rails
  • Used tables requiring leg removal or reattachment only
  • Used desks needing minimal reassembly, such as leg attachment only

This service applies to straightforward furniture reassembly at your new location that does not require specialized tools, extended labor time, or multi-step assembly from the Orbit packing crew.

Important: Orbit provides furniture disassembly and reassembly for used furniture only. New, boxed, or flat-pack furniture is not included unless quoted separately in advance.

Complex Furniture Assembly and Disassembly

Certain furniture items fall outside the scope of Orbit’s standard furniture service due to their complexity. Furniture requiring more than 8 components (including hardware) is not included in the basic furniture assembly and disassembly service unless explicitly discussed in advance and listed in the written quote.

This includes, but is not limited to, furniture requiring multi-step assembly, specialized tools, extended labor time, or manufacturer-specific instructions.

Examples of excluded items include:

  • Wardrobes, armoires, and large cabinets with multiple drawers or compartments
  • Flat-pack or modular furniture (including IKEA- or Schrank-type items)
  • New, boxed, or never pre-assembled furniture
  • Beds with storage compartments, hydraulic lifts, or built-in mechanisms
  • Bookcases, wall units, or exercise equipment requiring detailed assembly
  • Chairs or furniture previously disassembled that require multi-step reassembly
  • Bunk beds, cribs, or beds with numerous structural components

These items typically require specialized tools, additional time, or experienced assembly personnel. If your move includes any of the items listed above, a separate quote for advanced furniture disassembly and reassembly is required.

Unless expressly agreed to in writing and included in the final quote, complex furniture assembly and disassembly is not included in the standard service price.

Complex Assembly / Disassembly

Special Cases, Notes, and Exceptions

Children’s Cribs and Bunk Beds:
Due to safety, regulatory, and liability considerations, Orbit Moving and its third-party service providers do not perform crib or bunk bed disassembly or reassembly as part of any standard or advanced furniture assembly service.

Specialty and Custom Furniture:
Furniture with intricate, custom, or non-standard construction may require expert handling, specialized tools, or additional time. These items typically fall outside the scope of standard furniture disassembly and reassembly and may be subject to additional charges if service is requested and approved in advance.

Advance Notice Required:
If your move includes complex, oversized, fragile, or unique furniture items requiring special care, advance notification is mandatory. This allows Orbit to properly assess the requirements and arrange appropriate personnel, tools, or third-party services as needed.

Access-Related Disassembly:
If any furniture—whether new or used—must be dismantled solely due to access restrictions (such as narrow doorways, staircases, elevators, or building limitations) or to reduce shipment dimensions, this disassembly is not included in the original service price unless expressly arranged and quoted in writing in advance.

Handyman Services

Orbit offers professional handyman services for tasks requiring additional care, time, or expertise beyond the standard furniture service. Handyman services are typically used for complex furniture assembly or disassembly, detailed reinstallation, or on-site assistance that requires extended labor or specialized handling.

Handyman services must be scheduled in advance and are provided by qualified third-party professionals.

Handyman Service Terms and Conditions:

  • Minimum Service Time: A minimum of 4 billable hours applies
  • Personnel Requirements: In most cases, 2 professionals are required to complete the work safely and efficiently
  • Travel Time: Travel time to and from the service location is billable at the same hourly rate

Required Information for Handyman Assembly Services:
To ensure proper preparation, accurate pricing, and efficient service, the following information must be provided in advance:

  • Used furniture: Clear photos of the items before and during disassembly
  • A complete inventory list identifying all items requiring assembly or reassembly
  • Confirmation of where all hardware (screws, bolts, fittings) is stored for each item
  • New furniture: A web link or PDF copy of the manufacturer’s assembly instructions
  • Used furniture: Any available notes, diagrams, or guidance that may assist with faster and accurate reassembly

This advance information is essential for assigning the appropriate handyman and ensuring they arrive fully prepared. Providing complete and accurate details helps avoid service delays, reduce unnecessary billable time, and prevent additional costs caused by missing information or unforeseen complexity.
